From August 13, 2004 to September 25, 2004, Florida, the United States, had undergone four serious hurricanes: an estimated 20% of families were damaged and 124 died. In October 2004, the Florida Department of Health added 30 questions to the Behavior Risk Factors Monitoring System (BRFSS) to investigate the impact of hurricanes on local populations. This article summarizes the findings of the survey, and 48.7% of Florida residents did not make any transfer plans prior to the hurricane
