成立于1997年的中国儿童医疗基金会,是美国惟一一个为中国残疾儿童提供直接免费医疗帮助的基金会,旅美华人洪海洋为主要发起人,基金会在美国募集医疗用品和器械,派遣美国资深的医疗专家赴华和中国政府有关部门共同选定手术基地与中国医生合作,为残疾孤儿进行手术,使这些孩子重返社会。 1999年4月23日。美国中国儿童医疗基金会的19名成员从纽约等地辗转飞行30余小时,抵达哈尔滨。他们之中有6位博士、4位硕士。在哈尔滨15天,他们马不停蹄,为当地的29名残疾孤儿免费做了50例手术,留下了许多动人的故事。来华的外国专家中,年龄最大的是哥伦比亚大学教授、著名小儿外科专家舒林哥博士,他于5年前退休,离开了手术台,要把更多的时间留给家人。可这次来到哈尔滨,他不顾同伴劝阻,又破例走上手术台。他说,我
The China Children’s Medical Foundation, established in 1997, is the only foundation in the United States that provides direct free medical assistance to children with disabilities in China.
