《红楼梦》是中国古典文学中最优秀的作品之一,具有广阔而深邃的思想内涵,蕴藏着对人生和宇宙的深层拷问和理性思索。在众多《红楼梦》译本之中以杨宪益和霍克斯的著作最具代表性,本文通过对两译本习语的研究揭示当时的社会风貌,找寻目的语和源语有关习语的翻译特点的不同,进而了解目的语文化下习语翻译的精髓,从而更好的将原著中的精华展现在世人面前。
“Dream of Red Mansions” is one of the best works in Chinese classical literature. It has broad and profound ideological connotations, and contains deep interrogation and rational thinking about life and the universe. Among the many versions of A Dream of Red Mansions, the works of Yang Hsien-yi and Hawkes are the most representative. The study of the two versions of idioms reveals the social characteristics at that time, and finds differences in the translation characteristics between idioms and source languages , And then understand the essence of idiom translation under the target language culture so as to better present the essence of the original text to the world.
