在“文化大革命”(简称“文革”)初,横扫“四旧”如刮起一场十二级台风,上海所有寺庙的佛像、文物均横遭冲击,大多化为乌有,唯独安远路玉佛寺,却完整地幸存下来。人们称奇,其实个中确有一番甜、酸、苦、辣的滋味在心头。今天的玉佛寺,香客盈门,胜友如云,尤其是来沪旅游的外宾,天天络绎不绝,还接待各国元首贵宾,成为一座享有海内外盛誊的丛林。它体现了我国人民享有宗教信仰的自由,寺庙文物受到党和政府的尊重和保护。
