2008年4月,河南省地质博物馆的开馆,在中原大地掀起了一股地质科普热。从4月26日至10月26日的半年时间里,该馆接待观众已超过35万人目前,这里已分别被省有关部门授予普及国土资源知识与提高青少年科学文化素质的教育基地。中央电视台、人民日报等新闻媒体多次给予报道。
