《激进主义者菲力克斯·霍尔特》涉及19世纪英国社会的民主改革进程,乔治·爱略特的政治思想在这部小说中更具中产阶级倾向。只要深入小说,就会发现她对民主改革、激进主义、阶级冲突的看法存在不平衡与相悖之处。本文从“激进主义”的定义入手,以19世纪中期英国的政治思想和社会现实为参照,通过解析民主气氛下菲力克斯和哈罗德分别代表的两种激进主义的内涵,对小说的政治思想进行探源。
