A new study published in the Cell Report in the United States, the leading cell biology journal, found that there was a link between excessive intracellular iron and AMD. The researchers described the molecular mechanisms by which iron in the retina’s intracellular aggregates lead to AMD. The new study was done in collaboration with Dr. Bradley Gelvard, a researcher at the University of Kentucky and colleagues.
