Jeffrey Hill is an outstanding representative of a new generation of British poets after World War II. Many of his poems use archeological fragments as the theme and the fragmentary language as the main means of expression. He deliberately mixed history and reality to reconstruct the peculiar historical myth, which implied a heavy historical and serious ethical theme.
