Literature reflects the contradictions and conflicts of all kinds of morality in the fictional art world. It is unavoidable for morality and artistic responsibility for writers to make corresponding moral evaluations on the various types of social events and figures they describe. Therefore, in literary works It is not nonsense to explore the writer’s moral orientation and moral judgment. In Waiting for the Barbarians, Coetzee strongly condemned and relentlessly criticized the atrocities committed indiscriminately by the Empire of barbarians. Based on the three implied relationships in the novel, this paper analyzes Coetzee ’s evaluation of the ethical code of conduct and ethical choice of the protagonist.
