1903年的中美《通商行船续订条约》虽然是一个不平等的条约,为扩大美国在华投资和贸易提供了某些条约保障,但由于清政府国权意识的增强,该条约在主要方面并没有实现美国“门户开放”政策的目标,也不一定都对中国的利益构成危害,甚至在某些方面较诸以前的不平等条约有所改善
Although the Treaty of Renewed Trade and Industry between the United States and China in 1903 was an unequal treaty that provided certain treaty guarantees for expanding U.S. investment and trade in China, the treaty was mainly due to the increased awareness of the Qing government’s national sovereignty. Did not achieve the goal of the “open door” policy in the United States and did not necessarily endanger the interests of China and even improved in some respects some of the earlier unequal treaties
