In this paper, the author analyzed the geological distribution characteristics of natural gas and main control factors for the formation of gas concentration areas in Bobal Bay basin, which is a typically petroliferous basin rich in oil, although natural gas occurs widely within it. The main natural gas accumulation areas are distributed in the sub-structural zones of the basin, including the zones of central uplift, structural slope, fault block, and prominence in the depressions. Most of the natural gas occurs in Tertiary, and the largescale gas accumulation areas in the basin are all related to Permian-Carboniferous coalgenetic gas. Because of the lower maturity of Shahejie Formation source rocks of Eogene,it is disadvantage of large-scale oil-type gas fields to occur. The oil-type gas accumulationareas are related to oil pools and distributed dominantly in the shallow layers as secondary pools. The main geological factors controlling the formation of natUral gas accumulation areas include gas-generating center and intensity, structural setting and sealing conditions.
