Moment in Peking是精通汉英双语的文学巨匠林语堂的代表作之一。林语堂用精妙的英语来呈现地道的中国文化,虽是异语创作却彰显了高超的翻译技巧。张振玉将该书译回汉语版《京华烟云》,字句斟酌后巧妙回译,无根回译却仿若原著。本文将以功能目的论为理论依据,对林氏异语创作和张氏无根回译中针对中国文化元素的不同处理进行比较研究。
Moment in Peking is one of the masterpieces by Lin Yutang, a masterscient master of Chinese and English. Lin Yutang uses exquisite English to present the authentic Chinese culture. Although it is a foreign language creation, he demonstrates superb translation skills. Zhang Zhenyu translated the book back to the Chinese version of “Jinghua Yan Yun”, the words after the discretion of clever back, rootless translation but it is like the original. This essay will use the theory of functional teleology as a theoretical basis to compare the different approaches to Chinese cultural elements in the creation of Lin’s novels and the non-root translation of Zhang’s no roots.
