Air Force Systems Command demonstrated at the Air Force’s Arms Laboratory at Eglin AFB a real-time display of a high resolution range imaging lidar. The test was conducted on a 300-foot tower at the C-52 Range at Eglin AFB. The Lidar system emits a laser beam to the target, turning on the timer. The laser hits the target and returns to the sensor, the timer stops. The computer records the time of flight and the location of each echo pulse. The computer transforms the information into a 3-dimensional false color distance imagery in which the target is located. The image represents the distance with the color depth and color change.
