Siemens plans to withdraw from the IBM-compatible mainframe industry and is negotiating with the German chemical company BASF to transfer its 33% stake in Comparx. Comparex is a venture capital company jointly invested by BASF and Siemens. It was established in the mid-1980s and mainly sells various systems compatible with IBM mainframes. Last year the company had an annual turnover of 1.1 billion marks ($630 million).
