In order to reduce the cost of roofs, efforts are continuing to study devices, support technologies and safety regulations that improve the roof support. To this end, in 1972, Scott invented a “rock friction stabilizer” for rock support, under the trade name Crack Bolt. A series of tests have been conducted on this device since 1973. Tests have proved that this is a viable new roof support with the same performance characteristics as other types of rock bolts. By 1975, further tests had shown that the device was practical in mines and was able to achieve the effect of replacing other support systems on a large area of roof and to be compatible with the mining cycle. The test used a large number of test equipment, and made a lot of data.
