Martin Buber (1878-1965) is a famous modern German philosopher of religion, the main representative of religious existentialism. His Philosophy of Encounter “provides a powerful help in changing the condition that ’it’ defeats’ you ’and’ me ’in modern civilization.” (Paul Tillichs Cultural Theology, Workers’ Publishing House, 1988 Edition , P. 242). His doctrine, which has had a profound impact on the spiritual life of mankind in the twentieth century, is regarded as one of the great Western thinkers of the time. Born in Vienna in August 1878, Bubba went to Vienna University to study philosophy at the age of eighteen and to Leipzig in the following year. He studied history, philosophy and literature at Zurich University in Switzerland in 1899 and paid a visit to German psychologist Wundt. He soon entered the University of Berlin again and devoted himself to studying the science under the guidance of the German philosopher Simmel.
