On March 11, 2011, at 14:46:18 local time in Japan, the magnitude 9 Richter scale earthquake hit the Pacific coast of northeast Japan, also known as the Great East Japan Earthquake. The epicenter is located at latitude 38.1 ° north latitude, 142.9 ° east longitude, about 130 km2 east of Oshika Peninsula and depth of 24 km2. The location of the epicenter and the intensity of the earthquake were distributed in the Japanese archipelago as shown in Figure 1.
