Unemployment, underemployment and poor job quality Although a large number of young Asians are prepared to join the labor force more than ever before, many still find jobs. As decent fixed job opportunities are still limited, unemployment is a major problem for young people. Employers may discriminate against young workers for various reasons. The most obvious reason is that young people are often low-level and lack the necessary skills to work Experience and knowledge. In South-East Asia and the Pacific, youth unemployment rates are likely to be five times those of middle-aged and elderly workers, and in South and East Asia it is likely to be about three times more likely (ILO, 2006). It is worth noting that employment and unemployment have covered the issue of low employment and poverty among working young workers.
