Pecheur d’Islande (1886) is a masterpiece of the French novelist Pierre Larti (1850-1923). Our country has long been translated by Lelyon, and in recent years a complicated translation has been made. The “Iceland fisherman” depicts the life of fishermen in the Brittany region of France through the love tragedy of a pair of lovers. Literary simplicity, but there is an unspeakable beauty. Writers love to write exotic scenery, but also very popular readers. This is a kind of backlash after the prevalence of naturalistic literature. Lodi was a naval school background, served as captain, also cruised to the waters of China, with the “Eight Doomsday” (1901) book involving the Eight-Power Allied Forces and the Boxers. The illustrations published here are from the Helen Durrow English translation of the United States, illustrated by Robert Quackenbush, a contemporary illustrator. The original role of green and black color overprint, limited to the printing conditions failed to take pictures. However, it is not difficult to see from these rough, simple woodcuts that reflect the Nordic Islanders that the painter tried to convey the originality of the original style.
