When most people think of glass, the concept of glass quickly jumped into our minds. But under certain conditions, the metal can be made of glass, for example: This glass can be used as ideal material for power transformers and golf clubs. Rodd Hufnagel, a researcher at the Johns Hopkins University in the Port of Baltimore, is working on a method for producing metallic glasses that are superb, elastic and magnetic. Hufnagel wanted to understand the metallurgical transformation that takes place when the molten metal cools to a solid state when the metallic glass is formed.
