In a 2004 memoir, Najira Said spoke of a letter from her father, Edward Said, to her in her 17 years (1991). It was in that year that Edward Said was found to have rare leukemia. In a memoir, Najira said it crushed her and made her become anorexic and depressed; then the summer Palestinian homeland line made everything worse. It was at that moment that Sayed wrote this letter to her daughter. Najira cites the last part of the letter: I believe there is nothing better than trying to make those less fortunate
