US scientists at the Salk Institute of Biology recently measured the memory capacity of synapses in the human brain and found that an average of one synapse can store approximately 4.7 bits of information data. This means that the human brain has at least 1 petabyte of information storage capacity, or 1 petabyte, which is 10 times more informative than previously thought. Human brain synapses are primarily responsible for memory storage. If human brain information storage capacity reaches 1 picosecond, such a huge amount of information is equivalent to text messages stored in about 20 million quadrant filing cabinets or HDTV recordings equivalent to 13.3 years.
