在新课改中相关教育部门提出“教师在教学中应拓展学生的思维能力,在教学中培养学生的自主学习能力,让学生学会自主学习”这一政策。针对这一政策,小学英语教师纷纷摒弃传统教学中的缺点,对自身的教学模式进行不断的完善,在教学中突破教科书的局限,通过教学内容引申出一些课外知识,拓展学生的知识,增大学生的知识面。但是由于小学生的认知能力还未完全发展,小学生在英语这一学科上基础极其薄弱,想要让学生在没有教师辅导的情况下自主阅读课外书还需要教师对其课外阅读能力进行一段时间的培养。教师在教学中可以通过合理的运用教学策略培养学生的课外阅读能力,让学生在课外时间能够自主阅读,从小增加自身的知识底蕴。
