大方县是国家级贫困县,实施“八七”扶贫攻坚计划以来,县委、政府以扶贫攻坚总揽全局,动员各级各部门广大干部职工和人民群众合力攻坚,于1997年基本实现全县农村贫困人口基本解决温饱问题的目标,贫困人口从1994年的42万人减少到6.46万人。但按新的脱贫标准,截至2000年底,我县仍有11.35万人处于贫困线下。全县农民人均纯收入和人均占有粮食仍低于全省水平。扶贫开发工作仍然是我县一项长期而艰巨的工作,任重道远,不能有丝毫的麻痹和松懈。

However, according to the new standards for poverty eradication, as of the end of 2000, there were still 113,500 people in our county living below the poverty line. The county per capita net income of farmers and per capita food is still below the province level. Poverty alleviation and development work is still a long-term and arduous task in our county. There is a long way to go and there can be no paralysis and relaxation.
