初看周刚的画,便给人一种新奇的感觉,这个年轻画家主要从事国画人物创作,但丝毫不追随当下国画人物的潮流,而是别有一番天地。虽然其作品从题材到技法还没有形成一个完整的面貌,换句话说,还处在风格未定型的摸索阶段,但却使人感受到他对生活的那份真诚和在艺术探索上的勇气。青年画家周刚来自芷江,那里虽然地处偏僻的湘西,但却因为是著名作家沈从文的故乡而变得十分出名。重视教育是那里的传统,周刚从小就受到了良好的教育,并且对画画产生了浓厚的兴趣。在他刚上初中时,就已经开始临摹芥子园画谱了,进入高中,在他表哥的带动下进行素描和色彩的基础训练,并立志报考美术学院,毕生从事艺术。14岁那年,他偶尔见到了中央美院附中和中国美院(浙美)附中的招生简章,于是便执拗地到长沙和郑州两个考点应试,结果未能如愿。初次应试的挫折并未使他丧失信心,不久他的表哥得到了在中国画研究院进修的机会,正在读高中的他也向学校请假来到北京,一边学画一边学习文化课,偶尔还跟着表哥去听课,一有机会就向前辈画家请教。这
At first glance, Zhou Gang’s paintings give people a sense of novelty. This young painter mainly engaged in the creation of Chinese painting figures. However, he did not follow the trend of current Chinese painting figures, but did not have a world. Although his works have not yet formed a complete appearance from the theme to the technique, in other words, he is still in the undecided style exploration phase, but he feels his genuine faith in life and courage in artistic exploration. Zhou Gang, a young artist from Zhijiang, although located in the remote part of western Hunan, became famous because of his hometown of famous writer Shen Congwen. When he first started junior high school, he had started to copy the mustard garden picture book, entered high school, and trained his cousin under the guidance of sketching and color training. He was determined to apply for art college and spent his life working in art. At the age of 14, he occasionally saw the admissions brochures attached to the middle school of the Central Academy of Fine Arts and the middle school of the Chinese Academy of Fine Arts (Zhejiang University), and he stubbornly went to the two test centers in Changsha and Zhengzhou for examination. As a result, he failed to do so. His initial exam frustration did not deprive him of his confidence. Soon after, his cousin got the chance to pursue further studies at the Chinese Painting Institute. While he was still in high school, he also went to Beijing on a leave of absence from his school.
