In 1944, Chiang Kai-shek, who had been suffering from anti-Japanese smuggling for years, heard two almost simultaneous news reports of the resignation of Hideki Tojo and Hitler’s assassination. He keenly sensed that the victory of the Allies was not far off. Chongqing, on the other hand, confirmed the victory earlier than any other city, at around 7 pm on August 10, 1945.
