In order to improve the lift power and life expectancy of diesel engines, the task of greatly improving the material of the cylinder-piston assembly (especially the cast iron cylinder liner) has been proposed. Defects that affect the life and reliability of cylinder-piston assemblies include galling, severe wear, and fatigue cracking. The appearance and rapid expansion of these defects are often associated with macro and microstructural defects in castings. The statistical analysis of the data, factory acceptance test data, metallographic studies, and mechanical and abrasion resistance test data shows that most scrap cylinder liners are equivalent to a certain level of cast iron quality during each service life. There is a big difference from the standard in the cylinder liner that has been scrapped within the first 150,000km of running.
