This article describes a portable computer-controlled heart rhythm monitor that provides real-time analysis of cardiac arrhythmias and classifies important anomalous rhythms to alert and store ECG signals for a 15 second alarm. The device is suitable for long-term surveillance of critically ill patients and can provide predictive alarm of myocardial infarction and sudden death.
