重显《雪窦录》为北宋前期宗门语录之首。其成书始为七集八卷,初以写本流传,神宗朝奏请入藏未竟,初刻不晚于徽宗大观二年(1108)。南宋宁宗开禧元年(1205)再刻,由雪窦德云主持,宁波刻工洪举执刀,中国国家图书馆藏“雪窦四集”实该刻存世孤本。理宗淳祜元年(1241)该录东渡日本,镰仓时代正应二年(1289)由东山湛照主持,以开禧本为底本覆刻成三刻,是为五山版初期代表,日本东洋文库藏该刻唯一足本,据其可补已佚之宋僧德云《序》。元泰定元年(1324)宁波刻工徐汝舟执刀成四刻,石川武美记念图书馆、慕尼黑巴伐利亚国家图书馆、台北“国家图书馆”各有该刻零本,据其可补己佚之元僧如芝《序》·、自如《疏》。“雪窦七集”自南宋中叶起,按语录、偈颂、诗歌之体裁分装三册,其再、三、四刻皆为十一行本之同一源流。该录至明初建文朝始入大藏,此后即略去《颂古》,至明末《嘉兴藏》已不复宋元旧貌。
