Objective: To explore the expression of hMLH1 and hMSH2 genes in mucoepidermoid carcinoma of salivary glands and its relationship with p53 expression. Methods: The expressions of hMLH1, hMSH2 and p53 in salivary gland mucoepidermoid carcinoma and normal salivary tissue paraffin sections were detected by immunohistochemical S-P method. Results: (1) The positive rates of hMLH1, hMSH2 and p53 in cancer tissues were significantly higher than those in normal tissues (P <0.01). (2) The expression of hMLH1 and hMSH2 had no correlation with the degree of cancer differentiation, patient’s age, sex, tumor size, depth of invasion, and lymph node metastasis (P> 0.05). (3) Both hMLH1 and hMSH2 genes were positively correlated with p53 expression. Conclusion: Detecting hMLH1, hMSH2 and p53 will be helpful in judging the malignant degree and related biological behavior of mucoepidermoid carcinoma in salivary glands.
