Two hundred and fifty famous American educators, scientists, trade unionists, writers, pastors and celebrities have issued declarations demanding the convening of a ’Peacebuilding Congress of the Middle of the 21st Century’ in Chicago on May 29. The declaration states: "We have confirmed that peace is possible for those who promote the inevitable philosophy of war and we must find a peaceful way to replace the ’war of arms’. We firmly believe that the social system of the United States allows for peaceful coexistence, We ask the President and the United States Congress to negotiate with the Soviet government in an attempt to ban the use of the atomic bomb as a platform for disarmament and the peaceful settlement of all outstanding disputes.
