At the time of the Opium War, a group of scholars in Beijing initiated the commemoration of Gu Yanwu by establishing ancestral temples and regular monuments. At that time, several important scholars who studied the history and land of the northwestern frontier were all among them. Relying on the interpersonal networks connected by the Ancestral Hall, more and more scholars are devoted to the study of the Northwest. The knowledge of the northwestern frontier also spreads, participating in the formation of the imperial imagination of Han scholars in the late Qing Dynasty. The significance of Gu-Yan-Wu’s learning in the history of Northwest China, besides academic examples, represents the loyalty to the dynasty and the political awakening of the scholar-officials. This symbolic meaning reflects the connection between the research on the frontier and the politics of politics and morality.
