After emerging economies followed the advice of wealthy countries, the rich countries frowned upon the competition. For decades, developed countries have benefited from globalization, and now they have come back to rethink their values. Public opinion surveys in advanced economies reflect the gradual decline in public support for open markets and free trade. Politicians who have been identified as global skeptics are increasingly gaining political advantage over globalized supporters. Concerns about whether the international economic integration can continue to be filled with the public opinion column of the world’s major financial newspapers and international affairs journals. At the same time, however, with the global boom in trade and investment, globalization itself continues to grow rapidly, tying the economies of each country closer together, bringing perhaps the strongest period of world economic growth since the Second World War.
