OBJECTIVE: To study the chemical constituents and biological activities of the essential oil of Mentha piperita leaves, and lay a foundation for the development and utilization of peppermint resources. Methods: The essential oil of leaves was extracted by supercritical CO_2 extraction. The chemical constituents of leaves were analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The antioxidant activity and the toxicity of DPPH and Artemia were studied respectively. Act and Aedes aegypti larvae poisoning method to evaluate its antibacterial activity and insecticidal activity. Results: The yield of volatile oil extracted by supercritical CO_2 extraction was 0.089%. Eleven chemical constituents were identified. The identified components accounted for 93.0% of the total volatile oil, of which linalool accounted for 49.9% of the total volatile oil. , Which can be considered as the main component; the half-maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) of volatile oil of 0.45 g · L -1 for DPPH and the LC50 of 52.6.0 mg · L -1 for Artemia nauplii, When the concentration of volatile oil was 10 g · L -1, the diameter of inhibition zone against Escherichia coli was (9 ± 1) mm and the effect on Staphylococcus aureus was insignificant. The LC50339.6 mg · L ~ (-1). Conclusion: Volatile oil of Peppermint leaves has certain inhibitory effect on Escherichia coli, and has certain antioxidant and insecticidal activity, but it is relatively weak and should not be used in the development of insecticide products. In addition, volatile oil of Peppermint peppermint has weak Biological toxicity. This study provides a scientific basis for the development and utilization of peppermint.
