The relationship between petrology characteristics and grinding and calcination characteristics of calcium-based desulfurizer was discussed. Carbonate rocks from five different locations and geologic ages were collected, representing different genetic types and rock types. Chemical analysis, petrological analysis, XRD analysis of mineralogical phases, determination of grindability index and calcination were carried out. Calcination tests were performed on a thermobalance TGA-DTGA-DTA and thermal microscope respectively
