Writing is a basic language skill and has a high place in English teaching. However,English writing is always a weak point for college students. Among many factors contributing to such a situation,lack of cohesion and poor coherence in the flow of ideas might be major ones. So this paper takes cohesion theory by Halliday and Hasan as the theoretical framework and 40 sophomores as subjects to explore college students’ problems in the use of cohesive devices and propose some pedagogical implications with the expectation of improving students’ writing performance.
