In this study, 12 healthy volunteers after continuous oral administration of beta blockers atenolol, peripheral blood lymphocyte beta receptor density (Bmax) and plasma 6-keto-prostaglandin F (6-keto-PGF) / thromboxane (TXB2), and observe the effects of β-blockers on the regulation of receptor density and plasma vasoactive substances under normal physiological conditions. The results showed that on the 3rd, 5th and 7th day after treatment, the mean Bmax increased by 45, 56 and 67% respectively compared with the baseline values. The 6-keto-PGF increased with the increase of the baseline values, with the mean increase of 85, 106 and 69% respectively. This result suggests that beta blockers may have other beneficial effects in addition to antagonizing the sympathetic nerve.
