The Zhejiang Customs House Museum, which stands on the bank of the Yong River, has now become a starting point for people to trace the history of the Bund. It records many of the old memories almost forgotten by modern people. Since the establishment of the site of Zhejiang Customs in 1865, it has experienced many stages of Ningbo’s foreign trade along with the Old Bund. The emergence and development of foreign trade make the originally closed Ningbo economic marketization and the degree of opening to the outside world increasingly increased, and have gradually become an integral part of the international market system. Zhejiang Customs is one of the four largest customs offices set up in China and was founded in the 24th year of the Qing Emperor Kangxi (1685). It is also the earliest organization that started the modern customs function in China. After the Opium War, Zhejiang Customs turned semi-colonial and semi-feudal customs until the liberation of Ningbo in 1949. It is the historical testimony of China’s early customs and has important historical and cultural values.
