Since the 1980s, riding on the spring breeze of reform and opening up, the cultural exchange between Chinese and foreign movies has been unprecedentedly active. In 1983, Chinese film historian Cheng Jihua went to the Theater Department of the University of California, Los Angeles to give lectures on “Chinese Film, History and Aesthetics” to Chinese students, opening a precedent for Chinese scholars to teach Chinese film history at Western universities. In 1984 August, the school professor Nick Brown and others by the China Film Association invited to China to lecture. Subsequently, a group of European and American film scholars were invited to visit China; Chinese filmmakers also began to visit and hold various forms of film
