The metaphor of language has become the consensus of contemporary linguistics. This new understanding of the nature of language has made EFL learners metaphorical competence a hot topic in the field of foreign languages today. The ideal EFL learner’s metaphorical ability refers to the ability of the native speakers to use the vocabulary and grammar. The concrete manifestation is to find the similarities and establish the correlation between different human experience categories. Based on the metaphorical theories of Lenkoff and Halliday, this article investigates and analyzes the impromptu speeches of 40 freshmen of Fudan University in an oral exam, and reveals the significant differences in the metaphorical abilities of EFL learners and native speakers in our country. Suggestions for Improvement.
