斜拉索桥在近些年得到了迅速发展,以公路桥形式的上海杨浦、南浦大桥建成之后,1999年10月,我国第一座跨度超千米的特大悬索桥--江苏江阴长江大桥正式通车,主跨度为1385米.1997年建成的香港青马大桥,是目前世界上最长的行车道和铁路兼备的悬索吊桥.
