Online drug sales and prescriptions Medical treatment has always been the marginal business in e-commerce. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and several state healthcare departments are investigating illegal prescription and drug sales on the Internet. Tom McCinnis, director of drug affairs at the FDA’s Policy Office, said many of the sites being surveyed, mostly small ones, have no offices or physicians. However, he said large sites like PlanetRX.com and Drugstore.com are legitimate businesses. In December 1999, the U.S. government proposed to regulate drug sales across all the Internet, requiring companies to comply with state and federal laws,
