1998年,南京艺术学院中国美术史教授、博士生导师、著名美术史学家林树中先生主持的《海外藏中国历代名画》八卷本的编撰工作已经进入关键阶段。林先生担任全书总主编,众多弟子共同参与,或担任分卷主编、副主编,或撰写文字说明。我是辽金西夏元分卷主编。为了解决作品真伪、流传等问题,林先生特地约请故宫博物院研究员、著名书画鉴定家徐邦达先生担任全书鉴定顾问,徐先生欣然允诺。5、6月间,我们在南京和徐先生多次见面,聆听他对海外收藏中国古画的鉴定意见。其间,我本人有多次机会向他请教书画文物鉴定、美术史研究等学术问题。徐先生当时已是87岁高龄,但是一身仙风道骨,神采奕奕,清瘦而健康,讲话时面带微笑,思维敏捷,从容、洒脱而不失威严。先生所言,字字珠玑,弥足珍贵,是古画鉴定和画史研究的宝贵资料。每次谈话内容,我都作了笔记或录音。先生已于2012年2月23曰仙逝,享年101岁。《海外藏中国历代名画》八卷本于1998年12月由湖南美术出版社出版,媒体报道铺天盖地,中央电视台作了专题报道.引起海内外各界高度关汪。2006年胡锦涛总书记访问美国,将此书作为国礼赠送给耶鲁大学。业师林树中先生于2014年12月1日辞世,享年89岁。现将我当年的笔记摘录一部分发表,作为对两位先生的纪念。(以下内容删去了我的提问,只录徐邦达先生谈话内容。)
In 1998, the compilation of the eight volumes of overseas famous Chinese paintings by famous art historian Professor Lin Shuzhong, a professor of Chinese art history at Nanjing Art Institute, has entered a crucial stage. Mr. Lin served as editor-in-chief of the book, many disciples participated, or served as sub-volume editor, associate editor, or write a text description. I am Liao Jin Xixuan yuan volume editor. In order to solve the authenticity of the works, spread, and other issues, Mr. Lin specifically invited the researcher at the National Palace Museum, the famous painting and calligrapher Mr. Xu Bangda served as the book identification consultant, Mr. Xu readily promised. In May and June, we met many times with Mr Xu in Nanjing and listened to his appraisal of the overseas Chinese paintings. In the meantime, I personally have many occasions to consult him painting and calligraphy identification, art history and other academic issues. Mr. Xu was already 87 years old at the time, but a sly butt, full of energy, lean and healthy, with a smile on his speech, quick thinking, calm, free and easy, yet dignified. As the man said, every word, precious, is valuable information for the identification of ancient paintings and history of painting. Every time I talk, I make notes or record. Mr. died on February 23, 2012, at the age of 101. Eight volumes of Overseas Famous Chinese Paintings of Eight Dynasties were published by Hunan Fine Arts Publishing House in December 1998. The media coverage was overwhelming and the CCTV made a special report, which caused a great deal of publicity at all levels in both at home and abroad. In 2006, General Secretary Hu Jintao visited the United States and presented the book to Yale University as a state gift. Mr. Lam Shuk Chung, an industry professional, died on December 1, 2014, aged 89. Now my excerpts of the notes were published in part as a memorial to the two gentlemen.
