新经济时代正在走来,信息网络化、经济全球化和知识经济成为其显著的特点。1998年“数字地球”概念的提出,表明我们需要“一种可以嵌入海量地理数据的、多分辨率的和三维的地球的表示”。遥感技术、地理信息系统、全球定位系统等高技术的快速发展和整合应用,正在为获取、处理、分析和表达地球信息资源数据构建全新的平台,进而与可持续发展决策的社会需求紧密联系在一起。地球信息科学也因此应运而生、迅速发展。
The new economy era is approaching, the information network, economic globalization and the knowledge economy has become its salient features. The introduction of the concept of “digital earth” in 1998 shows that we need “a representation of multi-resolution and three-dimensional earth that can embed vast amounts of geographical data.” Remote sensing technology, geographic information systems, global positioning systems and other high-tech rapid development and integration of applications, is to obtain, process, analyze and express the Earth's information resources data to build a new platform, and thus with the social needs of sustainable development decision-making closely linked together. Therefore, the earth information science came into being and developed rapidly.
