沙夫1970年代发表的《结构主义与马克思主义》一书力图从马克思主义的基本观点出发去解释和批判上世纪60年代在法国兴起的结构主义思潮,特别是阿尔都塞的结构主义的马克思主义和乔姆斯基的转换生成语法。他对于结构主义思潮的理解和分析,明显受到他所坚持和推崇的哲学观点的局限。但沙夫毕竟在结构主义运动兴起之初明确地阐述了自己作为一个马克思主义哲学家的观点和看法,显示了作者深厚的马克思主义哲学修养。
The book Structuralism and Marxism Schaff published in the 1970s attempted to explain and criticize the structuralist trend of thoughts rising in France in the 1960s from the basic Marxist point of view and especially Althusser’s structuralist Marxism And Chomsky’s conversion grammar. His understanding and analysis of the structuralism trend of thought was obviously limited by the philosophical views that he insisted on and respected. However, after all, Schaff clearly expounded his own views and opinions as a Marxist philosopher at the beginning of the rise of the structuralism movement, showing his profound cultivation of Marxist philosophy.
