上海外滩上有一座小广场,广场中间伫立着一尊塑像。塑像身材魁梧,面带微笑,目光炯炯,直视前方,身体微侧,左手叉腰,胳膊上搭着一件大衣,右臂自然下垂……他就是上海市第一任市长陈毅。52年前的5月,他统率大军解放上海,担任军管会主任兼上海市市长。1954年秋奉调国务院担任副总理,仍兼任上海市长,直到1958年2月,陈毅在上海工作、生活了整整五年,和上海人民建立了深厚的情谊。新中国成立52年,特别是改革开放的20多年,上海经历了翻天覆地的变化,2000年,上海全市人均收入已达4180美元,达到世界中等发达国家(地区)水平。今天的繁荣离不开建国初期的创业,上海人民不会忘记陈毅领导上海人民从黑暗走向光明、进行经济恢复和建设的那些日日夜夜。

In 2000, per capita income of Shanghai reached 4,180 U.S. dollars, reaching the level of the medium-sized developed countries (regions) in the world. Today’s prosperity can not be separated from the start-up of the founding of the People’s Republic. The people of Shanghai will never forget those days and nights that Chen Yi led the people of Shanghai from darkness to light and economic recovery and construction.
