This article describes the purpose, progress and future plans for TACOM and Cummins adiabatic engine planning. The concept of an adiabatic engine means that the combustion chamber of a diesel engine is insulated with a high-temperature material so that the operation can be performed at a temperature close to adiabatic operation. Due to the use of turbomachinery and high-temperature materials, the heat lost in the cooling system and the exhaust gas, which are usually lost, can now convert useful power, thus increasing power and increasing efficiency. Such diesel tests have repeatedly shown that the adiabatic machine is one of the most fuel-efficient engines in the world and that the typical level of performance on a multi-cylinder machine has reached 0.285 lbs / hp at 48 hp (48% thermal efficiency). An early adiabatic machine was installed on a five-ton military truck and the initial vehicle test was successfully completed. The second generation of insulation machine design with power range 600-750 horsepower and many pre-research projects are underway. Low-friction insulation machine models continue to work.
