本文以《暴风雨》为例来评述诺斯洛普.弗莱的神话批评。弗莱的莎剧评论是在神话批评的框架内展开的,在传奇视角下,他将这一剧作看作低级自然向高级自然转化的寓言。但是,伴随着后殖民批评的兴起,对该剧的后殖民式解读亦严重地挑战着这一神话式解读。本文将展现并分析这两种解释路径的冲突,并借用“打断的神话”这一观念为神话阐释的效力与局限问题提供一种说明。
This article uses “Storm” as an example to comment on the mythological criticism of Northrop Frye. Frye’s Shakespearean commentary is carried out within the framework of mythological criticism. From a legendary perspective, he views the play as a parable of the transformation of low-level nature into high-level nature. However, with the rise of post-colonial criticism, the post-colonial interpretation of the play has also seriously challenged this mythical interpretation. This article will show and analyze the conflicts between these two interpretations and use the notion of “interrupted myths” to provide an explanation of the validity and limitations of mythological interpretation.
