作为中国传统文化的经典作品,《论语》也慢慢踏入世界舞台,其英译本如今已多达30余版。然而这些译本究竟为儒学精髓的传播起了多少推动作用,却值得质疑。本文聚焦于《论语》核心词“仁”的英译现状,对比分析了中外译者不同的翻译风格和策略,并指出虽然翻译的多样性体现了译者独特的见解,然而较为稳定和统一的核心词译法,例如音译法,却更有利于“仁”这一核心概念的符号化,从而使儒学这一特有的国学品牌更好地传播和弘扬。
As a classic work of Chinese traditional culture, The Analects of Confucius also stepped into the world arena. Its English translation has now reached more than 30 editions. However, how many of these translations have contributed to the spread of the essence of Confucianism is questionable. This thesis focuses on the present situation of English translation of the core words of “Analects of Confucius” and analyzes the different translation styles and strategies of Chinese and foreign translators. It also points out that although the diversity of translation embodies the translator’s unique opinions, The uniform translation of core words, such as transliteration, is more conducive to the symbolization of the core concept of “benevolence”, so that the unique national language brand of Confucianism can be better spread and promoted.
