我第一次听程桂兰演唱是20多年以前的事了。那时,她还不满20岁,刚从部队基层业余演出队调入南京军区前线歌舞团,唱的是苏州评弹。又过了几年,她到北京参加全军第四届文艺汇演,唱的还是评弹,但很有些新意。我感到程桂兰小小年纪,虽还有些稚气,但声音甜美,很有表现力,这个年轻人有根底、有发展前途。80年代以来,有些青年演员从民歌的舞台上“转移”了,民歌似乎不那么被人重视了。就在这个时候,程桂兰在全国民族民间唱法汇演中用方言演唱的《太湖美》,引起了轰动,得到了广大群众和专家们高度的赞许。程桂兰演唱《太湖美》的成功,使人们更加坚信中国民族歌唱艺术具有强大的生命力,拥有广泛的群众基础。程桂兰演唱成功的意义远远超出了演唱本身的范围。
